Taking a look into the development and thoughts of the developer of CS:GO. We had done an interview with the developer of CS:GO and found out a lot of interesting things about the game.
Counter Strike: Global Offensive is set in multiple locations urban and rural areas of the world. The game is a competitive multiplayer 5v5 game where there are two teams, The terrorists and the Counter-Terrorists which the terrorists are supposed to plant a bomb and detonate it and the Counter-Terrorists job is to stop them by killing them or not letting them plant the bomb.
The game does not contain any type of racism being that they have both white and black characters in the game nor they added any racist voice lines or references. The game doesn't have religion references but it goes against the views of the bible since the game contains killing and "The fifth commandment forbids direct and intentional killing as gravely sinful.". Although the game has the terrorists representing a Middle-eastearn population by the terrorists wearing keffiyeh which terrorist groups wear and those terrorist groups are situated in the middle-eastern area so people living in those countries could get offended by that representation.
The way the game represents society is in a way that the Counter-terrorist forces are there every time and ready to stop the terrorists. It makes them look like the good guys which they are but doesn't make them look invincible. It makes them look human like us and that they can fail anytime as well. When the Terrorist team wins a voice line starts saying "Terrorists win" implying that they have killed the Counter-Terrorists or detonated the bomb and that the Counter-Terrorists failed their mission.
The society seems to have a love or hate situation where u can either love or hate the game and cannot be in between. You can either love the game mechanics and gameplay or just hate the game mechanics and how the game works and make you not want to play it.
The development team does not want to make a new CSGO game even tho it has been 20 years from launch but they got pretty good reasons for it. They still get a lot of new player attention and the game is very active even after 20 years and are making still a lot of money and have no reason to try replace something that is not broken. The game is still getting mainstream attention from a lot of streamers and the E-Sports team. The game sales have reached 15.85 Million US Dollars in the year 2020 which is a downfall from the last 5 years which 2020 is the lowest out of all of them.

In my opinion I think that CSGO is a pretty popular game even if it has some weird mechanics and controversies but is nonetheless a very popular game worth checking out.
